From 2008 to 2011, the number of Tennessee medical malpractice lawsuits decreased dramatically.  In fact, filings were down 44% from 2008 to 2011.  As a result, the insurance premiums doctors have to pay has been reduced as well.  In Tennessee, a doctor or hospital cannot be sued unless an expert physician has reviewed the case and has given the opinion that the doctor or hospital was negligent and caused the injury or death.
