Former GPS Headmaster Dies in Single Car Accident

Unfortunately, whenever you get into your car and drive somewhere, it is possible that you will be involved in an automobile accident. While some accidents involve multiple vehicles, others involve only one vehicle. Any car accident can be deadly, but for some reason, single-car crashes claim more lives than other types of motor vehicle accidents. In the United States, sixty five percent of fatal car accidents involve a single vehicle.

On April 21, 2014, a single car accident claimed the life of Randy Tucker, the former headmaster of the Girls’ Preparatory School in Chattanooga. The crash happened on the northbound side of I-75 in Bradley County, just before ten o’clock in the morning. The accident occurred when Mr. Tucker’s car went off the left side of the road, hit a guardrail, and then flipped over several times. Randy Tucker is admired and respected in the Chattanooga community for the work that he did as headmaster during his twenty six year tenure at the Girls’ Preparatory School.

The tragic accident which killed Randy Tucker serves as a reminder that single car accidents can happen anytime, anywhere. While the cause of Mr. Tucker’s accident is under investigation, it is important that drivers understand that some single car accidents can be avoided. The first step that a driver can take to reduce the likelihood that he or she will be involved in a single car accident is to learn about how those accidents often happen.

Some of the preventable causes of single car crashes are distracted driving, driving while tired, speeding, and driving under the influence of alcohol. All of these causes involve choices that drivers make when they decide to get behind the wheel, or as they are driving along on the road. If drivers take care to avoid these dangerous behaviors, they can greatly reduce their risk of being involved in an accident of any kind.

While some single car accidents are avoidable, other single car wrecks are caused by things over which the driver had absolutely no control.  Sometimes drivers get into single car accidents because of the actions of other drivers on the road. At other times, poor visibility or slippery road conditions may cause a driver to crash their car. If a car has a mechanical defect, the driver can sometimes stop the car safely. Sometimes, though, a mechanical defect can cause a driver to lose control of their vehicle, or can cause the vehicle to stop suddenly. In these situations, it is possible that a single car accident could occur.

When a fatal single car accident happens, it can sometimes be difficult for police and accident investigators to figure out what happened because the person who would have known the most information about the crash is deceased. Unfortunately, this can make the grieving process even worse for the family and friends of the accident victim. When a loved one dies in an automobile wreck, clear answers about how and why the accident occurred can help those who are mourning the loss of the victim to make sense of what happened, which in turn helps them to work through their grief.
