Celebrate National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Day With Bailey and Greer

Many of the children we have been fortunate enough to help over the years suffer from cerebral palsy. "Our kids," as we call them, are all remarkable and unique individuals and we feel so privileged to be part of their lives. Since today is CP Awareness Day, I thought I would take a few moments to discuss this important subject.

Cerebral palsy is a broad term used to describe a medical condition that affects muscle tone, movement, and motor skills. People with cerebral palsy have difficulty with even the simplest movements, such as standing still, eating, dressing, bathing, and bladder and bowel control. Sadly there is currently no cure for cerebral palsy. Medical providers can only attempt to manage the condition by such means as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, adaptive equipment, housing modifications, and in-home attendant or nursing care. Family members face a lifetime of care and sacrifice.

Cerebral palsy is typically caused by a brain injury or brain damage that occurs before or during birth. Oftentimes the brain damage that results in cerebral palsy is the result of medical errors. If you know someone who is the victim of a birth injury or to learn more about your legal options please call me at 901-680-9777 or visit our Free Consultation page.
